La Nasa terrà una conferenza stampa alle ore 12:30 di Lunedi 15 novembre, per discutere della scoperta di un oggetto eccezionale nel nostro vicinato cosmico.

WASHINGTON - La Nasa terrà una conferenza stampa alle ore 12:30 di Lunedì 15 novembre, per discutere della scoperta di un oggetto eccezionale nel nostro vicinato cosmico effettuata tramite il Chandra X-ray Observatory .

La conferenza si terrà presso lo studio televisivo 300 E S. SW della NASA a Washington e sarà trasmessa in diretta su NASA TV.

I rappresentanti dei media potranno partecipare e porre domande anche in call-conference, dopo aver fornito i propri dati a Trent Perrotto ( trent.j.perrotto@nasa.gov ) dalle 10 am del 15 Novembre.
Gli scienziati coinvolti nella ricerca saranno disponibili per rispondere alle domande. I partecipanti alla conferenza che si occuperanno di fornire le analisi della ricerca includono:

- Jon Morse, direttore della divisione di astrofisica della Nasa di Washington;
- Kimberly Weaver, astrofisico della Goddard Space Flight Center della Nasa di Greenbelt, nel Maryland;

NASA Announces Televised Chandra News Conference

WASHINGTON -- NASA will hold a news conference at 12:30 p.m. EST on Monday, Nov. 15, to discuss the Chandra X-ray Observatory's discovery of an exceptional object in our cosmic neighborhood.

The news conference will originate from NASA Headquarters' television studio, 300 E St. SW in Washington and carried live on NASA TV.

Media representatives may attend the conference, join by phone or ask questions from participating NASA locations. To RSVP or obtain dial-in information, journalists must send their name, affiliation and telephone number to Trent Perrotto at: trent.j.perrotto@nasa.gov by 10 a.m. EST on Nov. 15. Reporters wishing to attend the conference in-person must have a valid press credential for access. Non-U.S. media also must bring passports.

Scientists involved in the research will be available to answer questions. Panelists providing analysis of the research include:

Youngest Black Hole

SN 1979C was first reported to be seen by an amateur astronomer in 1979. The galaxy M100 is located in the Virgo Cluster about 50 million light years from Earth. This approximately 30-year age, plus its relatively close distance, makes SN 1979C the nearest example where the birth of a black hole has been observed, if the interpretation by the scientists is correct.

Data from Chandra, as well as NASA's Swift, the European Space Agency's XMM-Newton and the German ROSAT observatory revealed a bright source of X-rays that has remained steady for the 12 years from 1995 to 2007 over which it has been observed. This behavior and the X-ray spectrum, or distribution of X-rays with energy, support the idea that the object in SN 1979C is a black hole being fed either by material falling back into the black hole after the supernova, or from a binary companion.

The scientists think that SN 1979C formed when a star about 20 times more massive than the Sun collapsed. It was a particular type of supernova where the exploded star had ejected some, but not all of its outer, hydrogen-rich envelope before the explosion, so it is unlikely to have been associated with a gamma-ray burst (GRB). Supernovas have sometimes been associated with GRBs, but only where the exploded star had completely lost its hydrogen envelope. Since most black holes should form when the core of a star collapses and a gamma-ray burst is not produced, this may be the first time that the common way of making a black hole has been observed.

The very young age of about 30 years for the black hole is the observed value, that is the age of the remnant as it appears in the image. Astronomers quote ages in this way because of the observational nature of their field, where their knowledge of the Universe is based almost entirely on the electromagnetic radiation received by telescopes.

Tutto questo porta ad una riflessione che vorremmo condividere con i lettori: se la conferenza stampa avesse svelato un oggetto di tutt'altra natura e per certi aspetti "minaccioso", è possibile che tale rivelazione avrebbe generato quei sentimenti di sollievo e soddisfazione per tutti coloro che attendono chissà quale evento apocalittico?

Probabilmente è più corretto ipotizzare che in tanti aspettano da tempo la fine di quella (presunta) strategia di cover-up che indurrebbe gli "enti preposti" all’insabbiamento delle prove concrete sull’esistenza degli ufo e della vita extraterrestre. Ecco quindi che la conferenza della Nasa era vista proprio come un primo, importante, passo avanti verso “quella verità” celata sin dagli anni 50.

Ora che il 15 novembre è trascorso senza particolari entusiasmi, non resta che attendere un'altra data a noi vicina: il 24 novembre.
